Detroit Performs: The Kresge Honors
A celebration of 10 years of the Kresge Eminent Artists in Detroit
PREMIERED FEBRUARY, 2019
The Kresge Honors was hosted by Rip Rapson, president and CEO of The Kresge Foundation, and featured performances honoring some of Detroit’s most prominent artists, including the late Marcus Belgrave and David DiChiera, as well as Leni Sinclair, Ruth Adler, Charles McGee and others.
Spoken word artist Mike Ellison, singer Joan Belgrave, filmmaker Harvey Ovshinsky, soprano Angela Theis and others delivered live, individual tributes to past Kresge honorees – many of whom were in attendance.
This is the 10th anniversary of the Kresge Art in Detroit’s support of arts and artists in the Detroit area. Since 2008, Kresge Arts in Detroit has recognized 180 Kresge Artist Fellows with $25,000 awards, 10 Gilda Award recipients with $5,000 awards, and 10 Kresge Eminent Artists with $50,000 awards, for a total of more than $5 million. The Kresge Artist Fellowships represent one aspect of The Kresge Foundation’s investment in the artistic communities of metropolitan Detroit, providing support to artists living and working in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.
