University of Michigan Penny Stamps Speaker Series
STREAMED ON FRIDAYS AT 8PM ET
Respected artists, designers, and innovators from a broad spectrum of fields conduct public lectures and engage with the community.
The Penny Stamps Speaker Series is a platform for creators: artists, designers, innovators and visionaries working in all varieties of media and mediums, to share their work, creative process, perspectives and wisdom.
This season we continue to present a virtual series as we work to pivot back to an in person theatrical experience while factoring in all variety of considerations.
Through the digital space we continue to meet artists where they are, while also looking to provide our local audience with many in person opportunities to experience the work of our guests first hand. We will also present some very special archival first ever releases, taking us back into the theater with a live audience.
While we continue to gather around ideas, seeking knowledge and developing our understanding of each other, we hope you will join us for an upcoming event, spend some time exploring our archive, and find new ways to stay creatively connected and engaged.
Established with the generous support of alumna Penny W. Stamps (1944−2018), the Penny Stamps Speaker Series brings respected leaders and innovators from a broad spectrum of creative fields to Ann Arbor to conduct weekly public lectures and engagements.
Design professional, arts advocate, philanthropist, and friend Penny W. Stamps dedicated herself to elevating opportunities for the culture-makers of tomorrow. In 2012, the U‑M Board of Regents named the School of Art & Design in her honor, creating the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan. The Stamps Gallery and Stamps Creative Work Awards are also named in her honor.
Historically, Penny Stamps Speaker Series programs took place on Thursdays at 5:10 pm at the historic Michigan Theater, located at 603 E. Liberty Street in downtown Ann Arbor. During the pandemic, weekly events are streamed in partnership with Detroit Public Television.
Penny Stamps Speaker Series events are free and open to the public.
