Learning at Home During the COVID-19 Crisis

At-Home Learning - A Michigan Public Media PartnershipEffective Monday, March 30, 2020, Detroit Public TV is responding to the learning needs of families with children at home as a result of Michigan schools being closed because of the COVID-19 crisis by adjusting its entire daytime programming schedule.

From 7a until 6p Monday through Friday, DPTV will offer blocks of programming geared to specific age groups – early childhoodmiddle school and high school – on its main broadcast channel (56.1), as part of a collaboration with Michigan’s public television stations and the national PBS system.

The COVID313 Community Coalition for Families & Students brings you a live, virtual townhall to highlight the important work being done in Detroit around education, financial stability, and health & mental health, during the Coronavirus outbreak. Over the next two hours, you’ll hear from public health experts, elected officials, and representatives from the education sector. We will also have time for questions throughout the townhall, so submit your questions in the comments below, and please let us know if your comment is directed for one particular panelist. If you can’t stay for the whole time, the final video will be posted on the website, and on the pages of our partners, within the next day.

With the new announcement from Governor Whitmer, you may be feeling overwhelmed. That is a normal feeling! None of us have been through this before. We are in this together and you are not alone. Your children need to know that you are ok and that they are safe. It's ok to not be ok too! Don't isolate yourself! Reach out to others. This is scary, but it is easier with each other! Below are some tips on how to be overwhelmed and still be the best parent you can be.
We will get through all the academics. There are lots of great minds working on a solution as you read this. As parents, we need to first be ok and make sure our kids are ok. We will have plenty of time to catch them up on academics!
