Camp TV returns to Detroit PBS for a second season!

Detroit Public Television is proud to announce the return of Camp TV, beginning July 5, 2021 at 1:00 pm ET! Camp TV was originally launched during the summer of 2020. Season One focused on helping the most vulnerable learners with the least access to physical and digital out-of-school learning opportunities. At a time when many museums, libraries, zoos, and other educational organizations and cultural institutions were closed to students and families, Camp TV was able to bring resources, experts, and teaching artists directly into the homes of our metro-Detroit audience.

Season Two of CAMP TV will be a limited broadcast series comprising 20 one-hour episodes featuring content from the nation’s best educational and cultural organizations, including museums, libraries, nature centers and performing arts centers. This year, Detroit PBS partnered with the Detroit Zoological Society, InPACT Theory at Home, and the Ann Arbor District Library to give students an engaging “camp” experience at home.

Zachary Noah Piser, as seen on Broadway in Dear Evan Hansen and Wicked, will return as our head counselor. Zach will chaperone campers through the episodes, and each episode will feature 8-10 segments from a roster of exemplary educational partners. Individual segments will be led by engaging instructors from one of the partner organizations, who will introduce concepts and activities for children to do at home. The programming will include content to bolster literacy, math, science, and arts knowledge.

Episode segments will focus on a variety of content strands including, but not limited to:

o   Let’s Move: focused on movement, physical education, and game-based activities;

o   Science Wow!:  exploring scientific fields, experiments, and our universe;

o   Center Stage: performing arts;

o   Write On: writing tips and literary creativity;

o   Count On!: math & numbers;

o   Field Trips: behind the scenes looks at popular field trip locations;

o   Let’s Get Cooking: cooking and food segments.
