DETROIT (July 21, 2020) – Detroit Public Television’s Board of Directors elected Maram Alaiwat, the Vice President of Business Development for Preferred Financial Partners, as its newest member.
“It is an honor and a privilege to welcome Maram to our board,” said Rich Homberg, president and CEO of Detroit Public Television (DPTV). “With her successful and varied background and her deep commitment to diversity, she will be a key contributor to our ongoing efforts to serve the entire community of Southeast Michigan .”
“We look forward to working with her to advance our mission– airing the best in PBS programming, engaging the local community in our work, and telling the unfolding story of Detroit.”
At Preferred Financial Partners, Alaiwat thrives in a multicultural, purpose-driven, inclusionary firm with a focus on people and relationships. Preferred Financial Partners provides world-class financial services through a nationwide network of financial professionals and experts.
Prior to her transition to Preferred Financial Planners, Alaiwat was a Partner at New York Life, a Fortune 100 insurance company, and has been an agent and registered representative since 2012. During her time in the firm’s Greater San Francisco office, she was continuously appointed to the office’s leadership team and served as a mentor to new agents. She used her training and certification in conflict resolution from the state of California to help mitigate challenging situations in a large office environment. Her peers elected her to serve as a member of the San Francisco General Office’s Agent Advisory Board for three consecutive years to represent their interests to management, and she remained on the board throughout her time in San Francisco.
She relocated to a Detroit based office in October 2016 to be closer to elderly members of her family.
In late 2019, Alaiwat realized that she could not expand on her interest in empowering and serving disenfranchised communities in a corporate position. Now, at Preferred Financial Partners, she works with a team of equally committed leaders who are focused on education and improving the quality of life for all communities.
Alaiwat has a bachelor’s degree in Health Services Administration from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL, and a master’s degree in Collaborative Educational Leadership from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, CA.
Maram currently resides in Riverview, MI, while also maintaining a home in the Bay Area. She enjoys spending time with her three sons and two horses, Abby and Sky, whom she donates to an afterschool program in Woodside, CA, to help children with special needs.
Many evenings, you will find Maram working with local public school administrators and the American Lung Association to support the cause of clean air, healthy lungs and smoking cessation. Both an active member of the Detroit Leadership Board for the American Lung Association and current Chair of the Nominations committee, she helps identify and recruit others to help further these causes.
