“I want students to know that their humanity reigns supreme.”

Patrick Harris is a 7th and 8th grade teacher at Detroit Achievement Academy on the city’s westside. Like many teachers, Mr. Harris had to pivot quickly and learn on-the-fly when Stay Home, Stay Safe orders closed his school and required students and teachers to use digital platforms for class.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Harris also went above and beyond to build a website that allows him to create and curate interesting digital learning experiences for his students.

In a discussion with DPTV’s Education Manager, Tara Hardy, Mr. Harris explains how he integrates passion and creativity with his instruction, discusses the concerns he has for his students as the school year ends, and offers a suggestion for decision-makers as they re-think education.
