Silent Hero: Meenakshi Mukherjee

Davison Elementary-Middle School

“I miss my kids…I miss their families…I miss their stories and jokes.”

Meenakshi Mukherjee is seven-year teaching veteran. Though she began her education career teaching fourth grade, she’s now an eighth grade teacher at Davison Elementary-Middle School in Detroit. Like many teachers across the country, the physical closing of schools caused by COVID-19 presented significant challenges for Mrs. Mukherjee and her students – – do students have access to laptops, internet service, or even the physical space at home to fully participate in their online coursework? Mrs. Mukherjee talked to DPTV Education Manager, Tara Hardy, about the challenges her students face before and during the pandemic and her hopes for a more equitable “new normal” as we look forward to the 2020-2021 school year.

We thank Mrs. Mukherjee for her dedication to her students and for being a Silent Hero!
