DPTV Presents The Future of Electricity*
The Future of ElectricityThe Future of Electricity* is a comprehensive and timely series of three, one-hour programs produced for national Public Television that show why the future of electricity generation and distribution is an issue that demands our attention right now. Three critical challenges face us:
  • Energy and the Economy
  • Energy Security
  • Global Climate Change
Electricity’s future promises brilliant solutions together with a knot of political, social, economic, and environmental issues. We’ll unravel this knot in an entertaining journey of discovery that will foster needed public awareness and educated debate, and connect the content on air and online to audiences and interested groups nationwide.
The series is produced by WTVS Detroit Public Television in association with the University of Michigan-Dearborn, guided by an independent advisory panel representing industry, regulatory, environmental, academic, and historical disciplines.
The series will present credible, objective examinations of the best scientific, economic, and social thinking on the multi-faceted subject. It will also raise awareness among viewers of how they may personally conserve energy, thus impacting our nation’s total energy usage and the environment.
After watching The Future of Electricity*, the viewer will:
  1. Understand the overwhelming growth in demand for electricity that will occur during the next 25 years and beyond
  2. Identify different kinds of power generation technologies (coal, nuclear, renewable) and understand the political, social, environmental, and technological advantages, disadvantages, and challenges of each
  3. Grasp the scope of renovating the national power infrastructure to meet the coming demand
  4. Have an informed opinion regarding future proposed policies relating to electric power, such as Cap and Trade and Renewable Energy Standards.
