A Science of Miracles: 50 Years of Organ Transplant
It has been 50 years since the first successful organ transplant took place; a process that has touched so many lives. In this film, we take a look at the entire history of human organ transplant; from the earliest attempts at transplant, the many failures and ground-breaking discoveries, to the undying hopes, clear vision, and the dedicated medical pioneers who turned something "impossible" into an everyday event. We follow two present day stories - a wife and mother in desperate need of a liver transplant and a young girl in need of a new heart - and along the way hear from doctors, support personnel, the patients themselves, and their family members, how the last 50 years has made this "science of miracles" possible. Narrated by NBA all-star Alonzo Mourning; recipient of a kidney transplant four years ago.
