In 1789, a ship set sail from London bound for the Botany Bay penal colony in Australia. It carried women sent to keep the male colonists from engaging in what the governor called "gross irregularities." Once aboard, the female convicts turned their banishment into opportunity. They set up a lucrative business offering themselves to sailors from other ships, thereby arriving in Australia rich and healthy. The film sheds light on the true story of the ship's spirited women who managed to play the tough cards they were dealt into a winning hand.
