Coach Khali

Jevona is a native Detroiter who wants to do her part to revive the economic corridor with the opening of Detroit Sip, a neighborhood cafe and community gathering place. After graduating from MSU, she became an attorney. Working to open the cafe while also working a full-time job and raising 2 young kids has been a labor of love. Jevona learned about entrepreneurialism by taking classes in her free time, and from talking with other local business owners around the area. Thanks to her hard work, and the culture of sharing she’s encountered, she broke ground on the cafe last spring to create a gathering place for those in the surrounding areas – from long-time residents in the Bagley, Fitzgerald, and the University District neighborhoods, to the students at nearby Marygrove and U of D Mercy, to those just wanting to see what Northwest Detroit has to offer.

Frank Venegas

20 years ago, Southwest Detroit native son Frank Venegas relocated his company to his hometown. Today, Frank is Chairman and CEO of Ideal Group in Detroit, with 3 buildings, numerous urban gardens, and a community park. It provides life lessons in how to get and keep a job, community assistance, and even neighborhood peace, mentoring and employing ex-gang members, ex-convicts, and local students.

Dr. Anan Ameri

Dr. Anan Ameri, founder of the Arab American National Museum (AANM) in Dearborn, immigrated to the United States when she was 29 years old. The many occupations she has held, including author, journalist, activist, and museum director, speak to the wide spectrum of her work as well as her driving goals: to better communicate the history, culture, and contributions of Arab Americans to the public and to recognize the common nature of the American dream among all kinds of immigrants.
