Am I Right?

Am I Right? is Detroit Public TV's local public affairs show that discusses the top news issues and events of the week providing analysis from both liberal and conservative points of view.

Nolan Finley, editorial page editor and columnist for The Detroit News, and Debbie Dingell, political analyst, square off as hosts of the half-hour editions that provide rapid-fire commentary from conventional and moderate perspectives on issues that have a direct effect on Michigan and its citizens.

Finley is inclined to reflect a conservative view of current issues, while Dingell tends to express a liberal point of view. Together, they generate respectful conflict and fresh ideas designed to spur you to form your own opinions and become involved in issues that affect you. The program has featured interviews with newsmakers from non-traditional to traditional perspectives.

With weekly episodes taped in the studios of Detroit Public Television, Am I Right? examines issues such as public school funding, taxes, crime, politics and business development.

During this segment, Nolan Finley and Stephen Henderson discuss:

Topic 1: Barack Obama gave his State of the Union address this week. His critics wonder if the speech was aimed more at campaigning for reelection votes than fixing the economy.

Topic 2: Republicans keep saying that Barack Obama is a failure, and weak, but their presidential candidates all come up short in the polls. Only time will tell if any of them are strong enough candidates to have a chance at the Presidency in November.

Topic 3: Governor Rick Snyder said he doesn’t want to see a Right to Work Bill. But it looks as though the Legislature might not give him much choice.

Topic 4: Business Leaders for Michigan outlined plans for the state to capitalize on its assets last week. It appears that the Governor faces a tough sell on the kind of investments that will be needed to accomplish that.
