Episode 910 Air Date: 3/16/2012
During this segment, Nolan Finley and Debbie Dingell discuss:
Topic 1: The big topic in local news this week is the consent agreement that Governor Rick Snyder presented to the city of Detroit. Mayor Dave Bing and the City Council could be looking at their last chance to avoid a complete takeover.
Topic 2: It’s another week, and another twist in the Republican Presidential Primary. Rick Santorum swept the South on Tuesday, and that could make him a contender for Mitt Romney’s frontrunner status.
Topic 3: President Barack Obama’s approval rating has gone down this week, as gas prices continue to go up. Obama’s opponents think that those rising prices will cost the President support among money-conscious voters.
Watch Weekly Discussion.

Episode 909 Air Date: 3/9/2012
During this segment, Nolan Finley and Debbie Dingell discuss:
Topic 1: Mayor Dave Bing wants $150 million from Governor Snyder. But the city likely will not get any funds from the state without a credible deficit reduction plan.
Topic 2: On the same day the Mayor gave his State of the City speech, we learned that the city is still having trouble spending federal grant money. $20 million for home demolition is in danger of being lost because the city has not put it to use.
Topic 3: Gas prices seem to be going higher by the day, and are dangerously close to $4 a gallon locally. The time is over for playing the political blame game, and the discussions should instead be about real solutions.
Topic 4: Tensions continue to build in the Middle East, with Israel and Iran seemingly headed for a showdown and Syria ready to explode. Meanwhile, President Obama is warning Republican presidential candidates not to beat the drums of war for political gain. Watch Weekly Discussion.

Episode 907 Air Date: 2/24/2012
During this segment, Nolan Finley and Debbie Dingell discuss:
Topic 1: The Michigan Republican Primary is approaching fast, and the winner is still anybody’s guess. The highly competitive nature of this race could put Michigan in the primary spotlight for the first time in decades.
Topic 2: Gasoline prices are predicted to go as high as $5 a gallon by Memorial Day. If gas prices keep climbing, they could seriously hurt the economic recovery, and will be a problem for both Democrats and Republicans in the upcoming election.
Topic 3: Mitt Romney detailed his tax plan at the Detroit Economic Club today. He is trying to contrast his plan with President Obama’s, but there is much debate over which plan will truly be better for the country’s economic growth.
Topic 4: Two weeks ago, Nolan and Debbie talked about the wave of violence sweeping over Detroit. Now this week, another child was murdered in a senseless shooting: a nine-month-old baby. Shocked Detroiters hope that this will finally be the spark which causes the community to mobilize against this violence. Watch Weekly Discussion.
Newsmaker Interview:
Paul Welday, Republican Strategist, joins Nolan and Debbie to discuss the upcoming Michigan Republican Primary. The latest polls show that Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum are still in a dead heat in the build-up to the primary, and Welday analyzes what it all means – for both the candidates and Michigan. Watch Interview Segment.
Episode 906 Air Date: 2/17/2012
During this segment, Nolan Finley and Stephen Henderson discuss:
Topic 1: Recently, Mitt Romney appears self-confident and assured in news interviews, but nervous and defensive on the campaign trail. This contrast in persona and attitude may reflect on the state of his campaign, particularly as he struggles with Rick Santorum over his home turf in Michigan.
Topic 2: Yesterday the Detroit City Council approved boundaries for the new council districts, going with Option 3. Some say that the current Council dragged their feet when it came to putting options before the community, and say that a much better process is required before they have to draw new districts in 2021.
Topic 3: President Obama compromised on his mandate that religious institutions provide health care plans that cover contraceptives. While many feel that the new plan meets everyone’s needs, his opponents say that this solution is no better (and perhaps worse) than the original mandate.
Topic 4: This week, the U.S. Attorney’s Office disclosed the extortion, fraud, and obstruction of justice charges against Kahir Kazmi, Wayne County’s Chief Information Officer. Then, two more County officials resigned. After all this, Ficano’s credibility, and ability to stay in office, is severely weakened. Watch Weekly Discussion.
Newsmaker Interview:
Doug Rothwell, President and CEO of the Business Leaders for Michigan, joins Nolan and Stephen to discuss their new turnaround plan for the state. Topic 2: Rick Santorum is the latest non-Romney candidate to emerge in the Republican presidential race. Romney’s continued inability to seal a victory causes some to doubt how well he will hold up in November.
Topic 3: President Obama finds himself at odds with a formerly reliable supporter – the Catholic bishops – over a health care mandate that certain Church-affiliated institutions provide employees with coverage for contraceptives. Obama’s supporters say the issue is about providing good health care for women; his opponents say it is an assault on religious freedom.
Topic 4: Wayne County Executive Bob Ficano is issuing new ethics rules for county officials. After the events of the last few months, it would appear these new rules are direly needed.
Watch Weekly Discussion.
Newsmaker Interview:
Angelo Henderson is a minister, journalist, radio host, and Detroit activist, who has founded the group Detroit 300. Henderson and Detroit 300 are trying to build a bridge between the neighborhoods and law enforcement to stop the violence in the city and catch those who have no respect for human life. He speaks to Nolan and Debbie about the state of Detroit and its communities, and what can be done – both by public safety officials and the communities themselves – to improve the situation. Watch Interview Segment.
Episode 904 Air Date: 2/3/2012
During this segment, Nolan Finley and Debbie Dingell discuss:

Topic 3: Governor Rick Snyder said he doesn’t want to see a Right to Work Bill. But it looks as though the Legislature might not give him much choice.
