American Black Journal

America's longest running Public Affairs Show

With more than 40 years of weekly programs, American Black Journal is a window into American history. Today, the show continues to be a vibrant and provocative forum for newsmakers, celebrities and everyday people. It is designed to be fast-paced with more segments and a mix of field and studio elements. The segments feature topics about the arts and culture and also cover community issues such as politics, race, and religion.

Stephen Henderson is the host of American Black Journal and editorial page editor of the Detroit Free Press. A Detroit native, Henderson is a graduate of University of Detroit Jesuit High School and the University of Michigan. He has worked previously as a reporter, editorial writer and editor at the Baltimore Sun, the Chicago Tribune and the Knight Ridder Washington bureau, where he covered the U.S. Supreme Court from 2003-2007. Henderson's work has been honored with more than a dozen national awards, including for work that is published in the book, "Best Newspaper Writing 2001." Henderson is a frequent contributor to Flashpoint on WDIV and was the subject of PBS's Expose: America's Investigative Reports about the world of death penalty defense.

American Black Journal is produced by Jamie Kaye Walters. Walters produced Flashpoint on WDIV from 2000-2007 including Primetime Flashpoint, a discussion about race. Her credits also include the nationally syndicated America's Thanksgiving Parade, Target Fireworks and Go 4 It Detroit among others.
