Men Get Depression
In the country leading the world in medical science, one in four men have an illness that is potentially fatal, wrecks careers and families in addition to the victim, and goes untreated 50 percent of the time. Men of all ages, ethnic origins, and walks of life get depressed...so why don't men look for help? They may feel weak or ashamed - that it's not "manly" to feel sad. This one-hour documentary explores the corrosive effects of depression through intimate profiles of a diverse group of real men facing the disease - including a former NFL quarterback, a Fortune 500 CEO, an Iraq War veteran, a university professor, a pastor, and others. Intercut with revealing scenes of psychotherapy in action, interviews with therapists, and commentary by leading mental health professionals, the program sheds light on depression's physiologic causes, environmental triggers, and new directions in treatment.
