Years of Darkness
Years of Darkness focuses on how the lives of the mentally ill are being dramatically altered by the "Recovery" movement. Recent studies have demonstrated that a large percentage of people with mental illness can recover from mental illness to lead normal lives. Some have jobs and most are able to have normal social relations and care for themselves. Support groups work on building self-esteem among former mental patients, even former schizophrenics, a group once thought to be "incurable." Two "Recovery" movement success stories powerfully illustrate how mental health consumers are demanding a voice in their care and are regaining their dignity in the process.
