Headache - What Type is Yours?
During the past year, nearly 90% of men and 95% of women in the U.S. have had at least one headache. The vast majority of these headaches are self-diagnosed and self-treated with a wide variety of over-the-counter medications. While effective relief is obtained for many, complications arise for some. Complications include: delay in seeking medical care for a serious medical condition such as stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, or meningitis; improper 'self-diagnosis' of headache type; or chronic overuse of analgesics that could lead to a different type of headache, often with debilitating symptoms. The consequences of these and other complications can have important medical, financial, and quality-of-life implications. This show helps define the different types of common headaches and simple steps you can take to improve headache-related morbidity.
