2|42 Community Church Helps Feed Hungry Kids
Gleaners Food Bank
It's summertime and more than 300,000 Southeastern, MI kids who receive free meals at school, are at home and hungry. Gleaners Food Bank reached out to 2|42 Community Church to ask for help, in feeding these hungry kids.
Pastor David Dummitt challenged the congregation, "spend the money you would have spent on lunch, to help feed these kids." Everyone was given a shopping list, told to go buy the items now and bring them back to church. At the Ann Arbor campus received a similar challenge, to buy food for hungry Washtenaw County children. Food Gatherers received over 2000 lbs of food from the 2|42 Community Church A2 campus.

Fight the Flu! Flu Vaccines available at Wayne County Public Health Clinics
Ongoing through the flu season
Wayne County Department of Public Health
Wayne, Taylor, and Redford Health Centers
The onset of autumn and cooler weather generally marks the beginning of the flu season.
“The best way to prevent influenza for individuals of all ages is by getting a flu shot each fall,” said Edith Killins, director, Wayne County Department of Health and Human Services. “We want to encourage residents to stay healthy and protect their families and themselves by getting an annual flu vaccination.”
The flu season typically runs from November through April, but can start as early as October and end as late as May. Each year, the flu vaccine is specially formulated to protect against the types of flu viruses currently circulating annually worldwide, such as seasonal and H1N1 strains.
The flu is a mild to severe contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can lead to serious complications in some individuals, including persons with chronic medical conditions and seniors, and can even result in death.
“Our role in public health is to help keep residents healthy and prevent illnesses like the flu that can easily spread,” said Dr. Mouhanad Hammami, Acting Director/Health Officer, Wayne County Department of Public Health. “Getting a flu shot annually for adults and children is a simple and effective way to protect yourself, your friends, family and co-workers.”
The cost of the flu vaccine is $15 for adults and $10 for qualifying children. Payment is by cash only. Medicaid will also be accepted. Vaccines are offered for adults and children, six months of age and older, on walk-in days and by appointment.

Book Club @ the Southfield Public Library
Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m.
Southfield Municipal Complex
26300 Evergreen Road
Southfield, MI
The Creecy Book Club will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. in the Meeting Room and at 7 p.m. in the Southfield Room. The book being discussed this month is Terry McMillan’s “A Day Late and a Dollar Short”.
Much-heralded and long awaited, Terry McMillan’s tour-de-force novel introduces the Price family — matriarch Viola, her sometimes-husband Cecil and their four adult kids — each of whom sees life — and one another — through thick and thin and entirely on their own terms.
With her hallmark exuberance and cast of characters so sassy, resilient and full of life that they breathe, dream and shout right off the page, the author has given us a novel that takes us ever-further into the hearts, minds and souls of America — and gives six more friends we never want to leave.

Loving Jazz & Blues @ the Southfield Public Library

Southfield Municipal Complex
26300 Evergreen Road
Southfield, MI
The Strat Axis Band will play at the Southfield Library on Wednesday, February 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room.
It’s not the same old blues when the group Strat Axis takes the stage. Sure, the five piece outfit featuring two guitar players can deliver the classic 12-bar blues in impressive fashion. But you get that and a lot more at a typical show as they use rock, funk and soul to cover the songs and play homage to blues and rock greats like Robert Cray, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, Mitch Ryder and others.
The lineup also includes Wayne Craycraft on guitar, Leon Mills, nicknamed “Little Leon,” known for his soul-inflected vocals, Dennis Defrancesco on drums and Dave Hiegle, on guitar.
Jazz & Blues is sponsored by the Friends of the Southfield Public Library and the Detroit Blues Society. There is a $3.00 admission fee.
