PBS NewsHour | Photojournalist explores border stories from every angle

Posted by PBS NewsHour on

Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist John Moore has been documenting and photographing life on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border for the last 10 years. A new book titled “Undocumented" collects his images, from Border Patrol agents, to undocumented immigrants, to gang members in Central America.

The One Detroit team has also been covering immigration stories on both sides of the border. On May 26th, 2017, Maria Juarez, a young Southwest Detroit woman, was deported to Mexico, leaving her leukemia-stricken husband and 18-month-old son behind. Maria was an undocumented immigrant who came into the country at just eight months old. But the past and new immigration policies finally caught up to her. Detroit Public TV and its Detroit Journalism Cooperative partner Bridge Magazine followed Maria's story as it unfolded with #21DaystoExile and #DeportedfromDetroit.

One Detroit - Four million people. One story.
