Henry Cisneros, Former HUD Secretary, on 'The Detroit Phenomenon'

For Henry Cisneros (Chairman, CityView & Former Secretary, U.S. Dept. of Housing & Urban Development), Detroit's population decrease and increased vacant spaces pose specific challenges. How Detroit responds, he feels, will provide important lessons for other American cities that are facing similar issues.

Current HUD Secretary, Ben Carson, recently announced the start of a new initiative aimed at those already receiving housing assistance in the city.

Carson announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is launching 10 EnVision Centers across the country. Detroit, he said, will be the site of the first EnVision Center, which will act as hubs--giving those receiving housing assistance access to training.
