Watch how one young Detroiter’s life transforms simply by learning to read. It’s the power of bringing literacy to students who have fallen behind. See how community outreach and mentoring creates the foundation for one student’s future. Meet Elijah, hear his story, and learn about the inspiring program that is changing lives.

One Detroit: Elijah’s Story begins with a group discussion from literacy experts moderated by MiWeek host, Christy McDonald. The literacy experts include; Eli Savit Senior, Advisor and Counsel to Mayor Duggan; Pamela Good, President and Executive Director at Beyond Basics; and Angela Prince, Principal at Mumford High School. We will also hear in a group discussion from 17-year old Elijah Craft and Elijah’s tutor at Beyond Basics, Javier Reed.
