#OneDetroit continues to gain momentum.
20 months ago, DPTV’s One Detroit Bureau moved into the Detroit Historical Museum. Since then, we’ve been honing our process, working toward building a new public media model that creates content rooted in intense community engagement.
Sharing real stories. Provoking conversations.
By building connections through the roadshows in places including: Live6, Detroit's Eastside, and 12th & Clairmount, Southwest Detroit, and Brightmoor, our team has been able celebrate Greater Detroit's positive achievements, take a look at underlying structural issues, develop deep relationships with overlooked communities, and tell stories with a depth that commercial media coverage does not.
Through our roadshow from southwest Detroit, we were connected with Maria Juarez, an undocumented young mother who was facing deportation to Mexico. This led to a collaboration between One Detroit and Bridge Magazine to tell her story as it unfolded both in southwest Detroit and even across the border.
For our most recent roadshow, centered on education, we went to Brightmoor. Partnering with local community leaders, we helped convene conversations focused on what it really means to value our kids' education--both during the taping and after. These are just a couple of ways our roadshows keep evolving beyond just a TV program.
As our One Detroit team continues to deepen its commitment to community engagement, to strengthen and build partnerships, and share real stories that get to the heart of critical issues, we invite you to be a part of the process. There's much more to come.
