Pete Duncan at the W.J. Maxey Boys Training School
Pete Duncan answering students' questionsOn September 16, 2005, Detroit Public TV held a special screening of the Reentry documentary Omar and Pete at the Maxey Boys School in Whitmore Lake. After the screening, Pete Duncan from the film told his story of drug addiction, incarceration, recovery and reform, and answered students' questions.
The response from students was overwhelmingly positive - one even asked for Pete's mailing address so he could stay in touch. At the end of the event, Pete received a standing ovation. Many students also shook Pete's hand as they left the auditorium, thanking him for sharing his story. Afterward in class students were encouraged to write their thoughts about the presentation on comment cards. Many used the opportunity to express gratitude for Pete's blunt, honest portrayal of the issues surrounding incarceration.
