Cuisine From the Heart
Preparing a favorite family dish so that it tastes "just like grandma used to make" isn't as easy as getting your hands on the recipe. Acclaimed Chef Shawn Loving shows viewers how to bring out the flavor in Cuisine From the Heart, aired Wednesday, June 22 from 8-8:30 p.m. on WTVS Channel 56.
The half-hour program explores how ingredients and cooking techniques have changed over time and demonstrates how to prepare dishes that are flavorful, healthy and inexpensive. Loving, chef and proprietor of the Loving Spoonful restaurant in Farmington Hills and teacher at the Schoolcraft Culinary College, enlists the help of two of his students to create a variety of dishes using his homemade basic tomato sauce, and transforming into sweet and savory turnovers, stew, and soup.
The highlighted segment of Cuisine From the Heart welcomes Sherri Cooper from Armada to the Detroit Public TV studios to recreate a "Wacky Cake" recipe left behind by her aunt. After failing in her own efforts to bring out the taste, Cooper issues a Loving challenge. The chef tested and adjusted the recipe several times with his students, then unveils a revised and hopefully improved "Wacky Cake" for the program guest. Did Shawn Loving restore the taste to Sherri Cooper's family recipe?
