Position: Executive Producer of Documetaries

JOB DESCRIPTION
Primary responsibility is the conception, writing and production of documentaries for national distribution, including all documentary film/video production elements from proposals for funding through distribution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conception of documentary programs and series
  • Writing proposals for funding
  • Pitching proposals to funders and potential collaborators
  • Recommending and supervising all production personnel and talent for all projects
  • Working with station personnel to develop budgets for documentaries and series
  • Writing treatments outlines and scripts for Documentaries
  • Working with station personnel to develop grant and underwriting proposals
  • Meeting with potential funders to discuss documentary program concepts
  • Supervising all field and studio productions for documentaries
  • Supervising all editing and post production for documentaries
  • Working with station personnel to market and distribute programs nationally
  • Coordinate and communicate all advisories panels established for documentary projects
  • Working closely with program executive at PBS, APT, NETA and other program distributors to gain national distribution of projects
  • Producing trailers and promotional videos for projects
  • Working with producers and other department staff on developing ancillary, outreach, web and program-related activities
  • Teaching production skills and techniques as part of staff and intern development
  • Attending departmental, inter-departmental, and station-wide planning meetings as needed
  • Meeting with independent producers
  • Reviewing and approving freelance production personnel’s invoices
  • Other duties as may be assigned
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in television production, journalism, business management, or Twelve (12) years experience in film or video production with extensive producing skills in video field productions
  • National distribution of documentary productions on Public Television
  • Leadership and team-building ability
  • Excellent story-telling ability
  • Excellent verbal and written communicating skills
  • Excellent interpersonal (“people”) skills
  • Excellent understanding of field shooting and editing techniques
  • Ability to work under pressure, set priorities, work within budgets and meet deadlines
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to work long and/or irregular hours
