Detroit Public Television Brings Detroit Performs to The Fillmore-LIVE

 

Featuring Detroit Stars Jessica Hernandez, Bettye LaVette, Others September 18th, 2015-beginning at 6:30 p.m.

 

DETROIT (July 23, 2015) – On September 18, 2015, Detroit Public Television (DPTV) will bring together some of Motown’s rising stars and legendary artists for a one night Detroit Performs Live at the Fillmore Detroit. From soul/star pop Jessica Hernandez and Country Star Ty Stone to legendary R&B artist Bettye LaVette and popular jazz flutist, Alexander Zonjic, the event will be broadcast live on WTVS-Channel 56 and streamed online in partnership with IXITI and Culture Source and funded by the Masco Foundation.

In addition to Hernandez, LaVette and Stone, the performance will feature a mix of vocalists, instrumentalists and musicians and some PBS favorites, such as ROXANNA and Italian tenor, Pasquale Esposito—all live on stage. In addition, an interactive gallery will bring together some of Detroit’s best established and emerging artists in various art forms, such as sculpting, photography, drawing, and more—the likes of visual artists Dominic Pangborn and Peter Coe, photographer Amy Sacka, sculptor Austen Brantley, as well as the Vision Male Vocal Ensemble from the Detroit School of Arts.

“This incredible event will truly show the world how ‘Detroit Performs’,” said DPTV President & CEO, Rich Homberg. “We are bringing together the most talented legendary and emerging artists for one memorable night to help tell the story of Detroit’s art and culture, and we hope that everyone will join and take part in this celebration.”

Detroit Performs Live will include a VIP event beginning at 6:30 p.m., with a cocktail reception and online streaming of the red carpet and gallery performances emceed by D.J. Oliver, host of the Detroit Performs TV series, Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m., and gallery performances pre-show event starting at 7:30 p.m. VIP packages include an after-glow party with a performance by Detroit funk band The Third Coast Kings. (General seating tickets are also available).

The concert will be later edited to a one-hour program for broadcast on PBS stations nationwide.
